Rebelution kicked off their Free Rein tour this summer to support the release of their new album of the same name. Joined by hip hop duo Zion I, reggae rockers Common Kings and son of the legend Bob Marley, Stephen Marley the Free Rein show did not disappoint. Stephen Marley covered several of his father’s hits with a personal touch that did not detract from the original tracks.
The beautfiul Riverfront Park, is nestled in a bend of the Cooper River. The main stage is close enough to the water that 20 or so small boats had anchored to enjoy the show from the water. The water itself seemed to enjoy the music as it rolled the boats to the beat of the steel drums.
Backed by an impressive array of lighting, the professionalism of Rebelution as a touring band was impressive. Each member of the group played flawlessly and expertly engaged the crowd. The well practiced stage presence did not prevent the members from genuinely having a good time while playing. Their feel-good attitude wafted through the crowd and infected listeners with amity.
